What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence-based, individualised approach to ensuring people with disabilities are experiencing the best quality of life. This is completed through monitoring and assessments which may address behaviours of concern and the reason for those behaviours. In order to adjust these behaviours we utilise the client’s positive skills and focus on the persons’ own strengths.
In the process to creating better quality of life, PBSP will help individuals by discovering new strengths, altering the environments that may be causing distress, reduction of restrictive practice, training for support workers, evidence based recommendations for all stakeholders in the person’s life, and an in-depth support plan that will aid the individual and the people around them to continue with development and achieving set goals.
This approach is holistic and relies on understanding a person at their core and uncovering what their goals are, as well as manageable ways to achieve them.
